How to Stay Compliant with Government Regulations for Daycares

Many daycare consulting services operating in the Canadian region, especially Ontario must have the licensing for home daycare, child care assistance, and even if you are opening some childcare startup. There are certain requirements that your daycare consulting services provider needs to take care of.

Here we will talk about daycare licensing requirements, rules for childcare providers, and all things related to home-based childcare needs.

Rules for Child Care Providers

The daycare license in the region is only offered to the providers whose rules are set under the Child Care and Early Years Act of 2014. This act ensures that children admitted to the daycare stay healthy and safe. This daycare act applies to:

·        Unlicensed childcare providers

·        Licensed child care centres

·        Home child care providers that are overseen by a licensed agency

·        Licensed home childcare agencies

·        Providers of in-home services that are overseen by licensed agencies

This Act does not apply to:

·        Relatives who are caretakers

·        Babysitters or nannies who are hired directly by parents

·        Camps that care for children aged 4 years and older

·        Private schools that care for children aged 4 years+

·        Programs whose primary purpose is skill and academic-based recreation

Other Rules for Child Care Providers in the Canadian Region

·        They must provide the parents with receipts of payments for services

·        You will be allowed to access the premises of the daycare centre with your child, except under certain safety or operational restrictions.

Licensing Requirements for Child Care Centres

1.     Staff to Child Ratios

If the kids are infants, then the ratio of staff to children must be 1 to 3 and if they are toddlers, it will be 1 to 5. 1 to 8 ratio is for preschool, 1 to 13 for kindergarten, and 1 to 15 for primary and junior school age children.

2.     First-aid Training

Supervisors and employees at daycare centres must have a standard first-aid certification that includes CPR for infants and small kids. Other employees that work in child care must get this training within 3 months. There must be one employee who has first-aid certification and is always present on-site to respond to any type of emergency.

3.     Vulnerable Sector Checks

The staff, volunteers, and students working at child care assistance must have their criminal references checked and it should be done after every 5 years. Most daycare centres may allow staff to work with children before their vulnerable sector checks. However, the members must get their criminal reference check completed as soon as possible. In the meantime, the centres can conduct additional supervision or checks to protect the kids.

4.     Regulations for Fees

The base fee covers the regular daily cost of childcare that parents are expected to pay. In some cases, there may also be a mandatory fee for certain essentials that are necessary for a child to fully participate in the program. Non-base fees are any extra charges that might come up for transportation, field trips, NSF (non-sufficient funds) payments, and other optional services.

Conclusion

The Daycare license Ontario is necessary for those operating a child care centre oragency. At Daycare Consulting Services, we guide you through the process to ensure your centre meets all licensing requirements.
